ATV and UTV trails

With tons of great state and national forest land to ride through, Michigan is an ideal place to own an ATV. The series of trails that crisscross the state are rated for several different sizes of vehicles, from single track paths for off road bikes, to full sized UTV routes.

Geels Trail

The Geels trail is a 53 mile run that takes you through the heart of Roscommon County. Most of this trail is only rated for 50” off road vehicles, however there is 10 miles of paths (the Geels to Roscommon Route) that is ok for full sized UTVs. The ATV trail is dense, and winds tighly through the forest. There are a few significant hills but they shouldn't prove difficult for even intermediate riders. There are several different loops that you can make on the Geels trail from the intial parking area, one of which heads east, and allows you to loop back around, the other is much longer and winds its way north.

The Meadows Trail

The Meadows Trail is sprawling 91 miles of trails that runs through the Huron-Manistee National Forest. The majority of this trail system is rated for standard off road vehicles with a maximum width of 50”. These trails can be tight in places, but have plenty of areas that are wide enough to allow two vehicles to pass easily. Most of the trail system runs through the forest, which keeps the moisture in well. For that reason dust is only a big issue during long dry spells. You will want to make sure your ATV is rated for four wheel drive, as there are several spots that can remain muddy a lot.

Snowmobile Routes

Michigan's snowmobile routes are officially open from the the first of December through the 31st of March. The actual accessibility of these routes depends on the weather (it's hard to snowmobile when we don't get any snow). Some of these trails cross private property so they are subject to change. Make sure that when you ride you follow all safety guidelines to make sure that you have a fun trip.

Route 19 (Montague to Hart)

This snowmobile goes directly from Montague to Hart. At around 30 miles this long, (60 on a round trip) this run is a fairly short ride that parallels Hwy 31. Because it runs through Rothbury, New Era, Shelby, and Mears, you'll have plenty of chances to stop if you need fuel, or some hot food.

Route 19 -196 (Muskegon to White Hall)

Heading west from Muskegon, this route takes you across the countryside of Muskegon County on a winding run that stretches for over 40 miles. Unlike the northern end of this run, this stretch of snowmobile trail doesn't cross through any towns along the way so you'll want to make sure that you are prepared to ride the length of the trail.
