ATV, UTV, and Snowmobile Riding Locations near Kalamazoo, Michigan

If you're the proud owner of an ATV or snowmobile, then you're probably always looking for an opportunity to put your toys to good use. Lucky for you Michigan's Lower Peninsula is full of awesome opportunities to play outside no matter what season it is. We've listed a few great trails and routes for you to explore when you get the itch to pull your off road vehicle out of the garage.

ATV, UTV Trails

From Kalamazoo you'll have to travel a few hours north to Lake County to access quality off roading, however you'll be glad you made the trip. The Lower Peninsula is full of great trails and routes for off road motorcycles, ATVs, and full sized UTVs. Whether you're on an ATV or UTV, you'll have a blast speeding through the woods at these great locations.

Tin Cup Spring Trail and Route

The Tin Cup Spring Trail & Route is a pair of trails right outside of Baldwin, MI that run a parallel loop through the state forest in Lake County. The ATV and UTV route comes in at approximately 26 miles long, while the motorcycle exclusive trail is slightly shorter at 21 miles. This ride is a ton of fun for an afternoon outing, as it is full of hills, curves, and a few of straightaways where you can open up the throttle a bit. Because the route is designed to accommodate full sized UTVs many of the paths allow plenty of room for two way traffic to pass comfortably. The pathways are hard packed, dirt, which means that you won't have to put your suspension through much stress, however because this area is heavily forested you'll want to keep your eyes open for downed trees and other obstacles as you ride.

Little Manistee Route

The Little Manistee Route is a sprawling 47 miles of intersecting trails throughout the Manistee State Forest. This trail is spacious and well marked, however the length of the trail means you'll probably be most comfortable if you are riding a touring ATV. None of the hills on this ride are particularly challenging, so most riders will be very comfortable on this trail. The vast majority of this trail system is wide enough to accommodate a full sized UTV, however there are several parts of the trail that are single track only, so be aware before you tear down a path that may become uncomfortably narrow.

Snowmobile Routes

Not far from Kalamazoo there are some awesome snowmobile routes. Once there's snow on the ground you shouldn't miss the chance to get out and see Michigan from the seat of your snowmobile on one of these trails.

Route 58

Route 58 runs between Gobles and South Haven, to the north west of Kalamazoo. Starting in Gobles this ride is an almost straight shot that runs along the line between Van Buren and Allegan Counties, passing through Bloomingdale, Grand Junction, and Lacota along the way. Route 58 is just over 20 miles one way, so you'll be looking at an almost 50 mile round trip if you start and end your ride in Gobles. You should budget several hours for this ride as you will likely want to stop in South Haven, or one of the towns along the way in order to warm up and get a bite to eat.

Route 59

If you're feeling like you'd rather enjoy a North/South ride, you can start at the same place as the Route 58 ride and follow the trail up towards Allegan. This route has more twists and turns that 58, and it also spends quite a bit more time running along the shoulder of the road. Be aware while you are riding, and make sure you are wearing visible clothing. You should also note that this ride doesn't pass through any towns along the way so you won't have the opportunity to stop and warm up until you reach Allegan. All in all this ride is about 30 miles, so make sure you're ready for the length of the trip when you take off.
